Disney Music Group | Chevalier

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

How do you create a compelling, highly watchable video with almost no assets or creative direction? Oh, and it’s due next week.

That was exactly the challenge I faced when working on Chevalier, a 2022 film that tells the true story of a young slave who defied the odds to become a celebrated violinist-composer, fencer, and forbidden lover of Marie Antoinette.

Disney Music Group approached me with a unique ask: create “pseudo-videos” for three songs from the film’s score—essentially visually engaging pieces that would serve as dynamic accompaniments to the music. The catch? They had little more than an .mp4 of the trailer and a PSD of the score’s cover art to work with.

With a tight deadline and limited resources, we got to work, leveraging the trailer alongside carefully chosen stock footage and imagery to craft visually compelling videos that enhanced the music’s impact.

The videos utilize double-exposure, using the characters of the film as masks for select scenes from the trailer.
